Just Like Mommy

It's so fun when you see your children doing something the same way you do it. Both Hailey and Drew decided they needed to exercise with me in the morning. They go into their summer bin of clothes under their beds and pull out tanks/t-shirts/shorts and of course they need to wear tennis shoes too, just like me. And yes, they attempt to exercise with me. It gets a little cramped but it is so amusing to me. I learned quickly that I need to get out of better earlier if I wanted to get it in before they wake up. Hailey put together quite the adorable exercise outfit and I am quite impressed with how well she can do the exercises. Drew on the other hand gets frustrated when he can't quite do it like me.

No More Diapers

Dan and I potty trained Drew last weekend. He has been doing fantastic all week. He is so proud and was very much ready for this step. We are very proud of him too! There is something so darn cute about a toddler running around in their adorable little underwear- love it!

Big Boy Bed

Drew has been in his big boy bed for a couple months now. Somehow, updating the blog always gets pushed to the bottom of my priority list. This was Drew's last day in his crib...it seems a lot longer than just a couple months ago....he was not happy about me taking the picture.

Drew was quite excited to get out his tools and help daddy take down the crib.

Valentine's Craft

Hailey and I had so much fun making special Valentine's cards this year. Part of the fun was going to the craft store and picking out fun, sparkly paper, pretty glitter and ink pads. We created cute little creatures with the kids fingerprints and then added a lot of glitter! We borrowed this idea from a friend and loved it! My mom enjoyed helping with the cards too. The glitter was fun, but I am reminded why I love glitter glue pens- a lot less messy!

Drew enjoyed making a few as well.

Sledding & Skating

We had a lot of outdoor time this weekend. Saturday we enjoyed some time sledding with friends and had a great time. Sunday we were in Brighton for a birthday party at my sister's house, who lives on a lake. The kids ended up going out on the lake ice skating. My brother-in-law and nieces play hockey on the ice a lot so they had a section of the ice cleared and to my surprise, had extra skates for my kids. Hailey and Drew were quite excited to try this out and the funny thing is that they have been asking me lately to go ice skating. Drew insisted on "playing hockey", so he was hauling around hockey sticks while I held him up. It was quite exhausting, but a fun experience. The only down side is that I didn't get any photos. Maybe next time.

The Blizzard of 2011

The much talked about blizzard was pretty insane. The amounts of snow we got in such a short amount of time were quite extreme. Our driveway had about 2 feet, the neighbors was closer to 3 feet (due to drifting) and the snow drifts in our yard were close to 4 feet high.

Great Wolfe Lodge

We took the kids to Great Wolfe Lodge in Traverse City. We had such a great time. The kids loved the lazy river. Hailey really enjoyed going down the double tubes with Dan or I. Drew also enjoyed the little kids slides. I was so proud of Hailey for trying some slides that she was nervous about and she discovered they were a lot of fun. She definitely likes to do things on her own time when she is good and ready!

Christmas Time

Lenderinks Tree Farm

Our annual trip to Lenderinks Tree Farm to cut down our family Christmas tree. We started this tradition when we were first married and look forward to it every year. The kids love it. It's so fun to find our tree, cut it down, ride the tractor and of course drink hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows.

Santa Parade

This is our 2nd annual Santa Parade. This year was Drew's first year. We were much more prepared this year with blankets and bags for candy. Although it was much, much colder this year. We booked it out of there the second it was over.

Fall Preschool Activities

Hailey absolutely loves preschool and she has a fabulous teacher, Mrs. Decker. They do so many fun things. One thing I forgot to take a picture of is her Mayflower boat that she made. After making them, Mrs. Decker took the kids to the creek behind her house so they could float them in the water.

Picking apples at Klackle's Orchard in the Fall. They also enjoyed picking out pumpkins, the petting zoo, and of course cider and donuts!

Drew loved being like the big kids. He got a lot more candy than the other kids because after he would get a piece of candy, sometimes he would just stand there smiling. So many ladies gave him more because he was so cute! He started to just expect them to give him a second piece. Nice job buddy!

Where Have I Been?

Life has just been flying by and I haven't stopped to blog about it. We have thoroughly enjoyed our Fall so far. We are frequently outside playing and riding bikes with all of the neighbors...although that is dwindling quickly with it getting darker earlier and the kids needing to get to bed earlier.

Hailey is loving preschool...and Drew already talks about going to preschool and wants an orange backpack! So cute! He is communicating so well and is putting so many words together...he's such a chatterbox! He continues to be my little dare-devil. He loves riding scooters and rides down the driveway with one foot on the scooter and the other held in the air the whole way down. As if that wasn't enough, he then thought is was quite fun to balance on one foot and turn back and forth as he rode down the driveway...I'm a little nervous about what stunts he will try as he gets older, based on the things he is doing before age 2. He also loves doing puzzles and is the best snuggler! I don't want to forget about all these fun things that he is doing right now...so fun to blog about it!

As for me, I am thoroughly enjoying a Beth Moore study on Revelation. This is my 3rd study with Beth and I enjoy each one immensely. She is a gifted Bible teacher and allows God to use her to reach many women. I highly recommend her studies.

I think I have some pictures to post of some fun fall activities...but that will have to come later!

Reeds Lake Triathlon

Dan really enjoyed participating in the Reeds Lake Triathlon. It was his first triathlon and he did great! I am very proud of him.

First Day of School

Today was Hailey's first day of preschool. So exciting! She was so excited to go....and I was too! She jumped out of the car and headed in like she had done it all before...I was able to get a quick "Have fun Hailey" in. Drew was excited about driving Hailey to school, even though he didn't know exactly what was going on. They were both quite thrilled about seeing 3 deer pass right in front of us on the way to school. Drew now wants a backpack to be just like Hailey. Well, at least he got to have his picture in front of the armoire like Hailey.

Cold can't stop the fun

Although Labor Day at Higgins Lake was very chilly, the kids still had a great time! Instead of playing in the water, they enjoyed trips to the pole barn, jumping on the trampoline (as usual), boat rides, picking up acorns (somehow Hailey and Drew found this amusing for quite a long time), helping put everything away for the summer, and running around the house screaming...that was not my favorite part.

Michigan's Adventure

Dan and I took Hailey to Michigan's Adventure last week. It was nice to spend the day focusing just on her and all the fun things she wanted to do. She absolutely loved it. The majority of the time was spent in the amusement park, although she did enjoy a couple hours at the water park.

We were so excited when Hailey decided to try the go karts on her own. Once she figured out to keep the gas pedal pushed down, she was zipping around the track and it was so much fun to watch. We were cheering her on, along with another dad that was waiting to watch his kids next!

Happy Birthday Hailey! My sweet girl has turned 4 and in some ways I can't believe it, and in other ways I feel like she has been 4 for months already. Lately, she has been acting so much older and I am so proud of her. She enjoyed her party with lots of family and friends. Very fun, yet very noisy! Happy birthday to Dan too- let's not forgot Daddy amidst the many, many birthdays in August.

Summer Fun

I've been MIA on the blog for quite some time now...enjoying the summer I guess. Here are some photos to sum up what we've been up to this summer. Water, water, and yes, more water fun!

Drew has not ceased to amaze me in the water. He leaps into the water with no fear whatsoever. He is loving both the lake and the pool. He jumps off the diving board on his own, goes down the slide, and is now using swimmies.

The kids love soaking each other with the hose- fully clothed.

Moments that make you melt

I seem to have a hard time capturing the moments where the kids are making you laugh uncontrollably, or when they are doing something so sweet and precious. Well, I was able to snag a quick photo of Hailey reading a book to Drew- I love these moments! And of course, she wasn't "reading" to him...yet. The capacity that kids have to memorize and learn amazes me. I love that she can flip through the book and tell him the story because she knows it by heart, or will correct me when I read to her because I forgot to say a word and she knows exactly how it goes.

Loving The Sunshine

We have been having so much fun this spring, and spent many, many hours playing outside. One of our new adventures this spring is putting the kids in the bike trailer and taking a ride on our bikes as a family in the evenings. We love it! We borrowed a bike trailer from our neighbors for a few weeks to see if they would like it. They loved it! I was so excited to purchase one from Craig's list a couple weeks ago and I have been able to use it as a double stroller as well. This morning, Hailey, Drew, Georgia, and I enjoyed being outside circling the block with Hailey leading the way on her princess bike and the little ones were so cute in the double stroller. I love spring!

Family Vacation

We enjoyed a much needed family vacation in Orlando, FL last week. Although the weather was a little cool, it didn't stop us from having fun! The kids had so much fun at the pool...yes, we were in the pool on days that were close to 70 and days that were in the 50's-crazy to think about. Thankfully, the pool was bath water, so as long as the sun was shining, we were fine. Hailey and Drew both loved the water slides.

We took Hailey to Disney World and had an unbelievable day! It was 70 degrees and beautiful, perfect for Disney. Hailey had so much fun- and I think that is an understatement! She was on cloud 9. Her highlights were the princesses and the fast rides. She loved the roller coaster, which was so fun for Dan and I to see. She went on it 5 times and loved the front. Another favorite was the teacups.

The Barbershop

Drew had his first haircut yesterday at the barbershop. We took him to Dan's barber and he even got a first haircut certificate. I love Drew's curls, but he was in need of a haircut.

He sat so good with a little comb in his hand, just looking around.

About halfway through the cut, he noticed Hailey had a sucker, so of course we had to give him one. He thoroughly enjoyed it and I think I may have found a good bribing tool.

He looks so much older now. I love it, but I have to admit that I miss the curls. I'm looking forward to it growing a little so he has some curl back, but for now he looks so handsome. (Hailey loves to tell Drew how handsome he looks.)

Drew's Latest

My little man is learning and exploring new things every day. He is pretty much into everything- he definitely keeps me on my toes! I love to hear him say new words- there is something so special about hearing a child say new words. Some of his favorite words right now are grandpa, nana, toothbrush, toothpaste, down, downstairs, cracker, georgia (this is the name of a little girl I take care of), and dump (now let me clarify "dump"- he says this when he dumps out toys or when he tries to dump out his milk from his cup). Some of the other words, other than mama and dada of course, are ball, car, bath, cup this, nose, and doggy (this is still pretty muffled). It's fun to keep track of a handful of the early words. I looked back at Hailey's first dozen or two and they are very different. Another latest for Drew is that he now dances when he hears music- this definitely makes me smile!

Lenderinks, Here We Come

It's our family tradition to cut down our Christmas tree every year at Lenderink's Tree Farm. We love going out with a saw and looking for the "perfect" tree. Plus, it's always nice to ride on the tractor and get a nice cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows afterwards.

Santa Parade

We took Hailey to the Santa Parade downtown last weekend. She was so excited to see the marching bands. Santa was okay, but the marching bands, the big dogs and the real reindeer was what Hailey enjoyed most.

We also saw some really cool old firetrucks, the Mastercraft ski team, and the Grinch. We were definitely rookies though- everyone was passing out candy and throwing it towards the kids. We didn't have anything to put the candy in, so our pockets were overflowing. It wasn't good candy, but you have to get the candy just for the excitement for the kids. Next year we will definitely be bringing bags for the kids.

We Have a Walker

I'm a little behind on posting about one of the most exciting milestones so far. Drew started walking 2 weeks ago, right at 11 months. He "officially" took his first couple steps about 4 weeks ago, but didn't take off until the last couple weeks. It it so much fun to watch him get so excited about it. It is so cute to see him come around the corner walking instead of crawling. My baby isn't acting like such a baby anymore.

On the Move

Drew is 10 months old now and he is on the move! Over the last month and a half he has learned to crawl, cruise along furniture, crawl up the stairs, walk behind toys, stand up for a few seconds at a time, and climb on everything. It is so much fun to watch him, but he is definitely into everything! His most recent climbing adventure was getting onto Hailey's bed.

He still likes to do "so big" once and awhile...he used to love it, but now it's getting a little "boring" for him. All the little phases are so funny! His favorite thing to do now is wave to everyone. He especially enjoyed waving to whomever was behind the boat this weekend.

Well, we had to close up shop at Higgins Lake over Labor weekend. Sad, but at least we had a beautiful weekend to enjoy the last tidbits of summer. The kids enjoyed the boat as much as possible this weekend....and the adults too, of course.

A Princess Party

We just celebrated Hailey's 3rd birthday- I can't believe it! Hailey had so much fun gearing up for her party and thoroughly enjoying her whole day. I let Hailey pick out her cake...princess, her plates, cups, and napkins...princess, and her balloons...princess. Yes, we are very much into the Disney princesses right now. Dan and I gave her our big present in the afternoon before the party. It was a good thing, because she was so excited to get a bike, she wanted to ride it right away. She definitely had it 'broken in' before the party.

Carnival Fun

Hailey enjoyed her first carnival this weekend in Rockford. We had so much fun! Dan and I weren't sure how she would do, but thankfully she loved the rides and did not want to stop! We went with our friends and their two girls.

Fifty Three

Here we are, bundled up for a nice boat ride with the kids. Hailey wanted to see Dan ski, so although the water was only 53 degrees, he decided to have his first ski run of the summer in the dry suit. (It's always so funny to me that you can be fully clothed under the dry suit, be skiing on the water and not get your clothes wet.) I thought he was crazy, but Hailey really wanted to see him ski and he was not going to let her down. She did not enjoy the boat last year or watch him ski, so he was not about to let this opportunity pass him by! Good job, daddy.

Back to the Lake

Memorial weekend seems to come so fast...and back to the lake we go! The kids had a lot of fun jumping on the trampoline. I'm not sure who likes it more- the kids or the parents because it keeps them so busy and happy!

Spring Recap

It's been a busy and fun Spring. It's so wonderful to get outside and enjoy the weather. Drew is enjoying new things every day. Drew is now 6 months old! This last month he got his first two teeth. Below are some fun pics of what he is doing now.

Drew loves his swing...as you can see!

A couple weeks ago, Drew decided to roll 18 times in a row! He just kept going and going. I just kept turning him when he came to a dead end. It was so much fun to watch! He hasn't broken his record since- I think that will be a tough one to beat.

Drew is sitting up so well now. It's adorable. After baths, Hailey and Drew like to play on her bed. It's fun to see him able to sit with her now instead of just rolling around.

Hailey has been attending Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) with Nana (grandma) and her cousin, Jack. She absolutely loves it and has learned so much. She likes to pretend she is the teacher, and tell me about the Bible stories. I of course, have to sit on my carpet square and listen.

Big Girl Bike

Wow, two posts in one day! Hailey and I went outside to say "hi" to the neighbors just before dinner and next thing I know she's riding the big girl bike that belongs to the neighbor girl. At first she just wanted to sit on it, but then decided she wanted to try riding it. She could just barely reach to keep pedaling, but she kept it moving. A minute later she's flying up and down the sidewalk- I actually had to run to keep up with her a few times! It was awesome!

Helping Daddy

Hailey loves to help daddy with anything and everything she can. She was so excited to help him with the yard work today. She wanted to keep her dress on, but also needed to dress a little warmer to go outside. And the results are spectacular! A dress with fleece pants and a sweatshirt! Anyway, these sunny days are getting us excited for warmer weather.

Growing Boy

My baby boy is now four months old and growing like a weed. He is now 18 lbs. 2 oz. and 27" long. It's all happening too fast. Drew is rolling over, playing in his exersaucer, smiling all the time and cooing like crazy! I forgot how adorable the cooing is.

Hailey continues to be a fabulous big sister as she loves on him all the time. She loves to kiss him, talk to him and hold his hand. Here she is teaching him the alphabet (and of course holding his hand).

Drew just started eating rice cereal and she enjoys helping me feed him.

Disney On Ice

Dan and I took Hailey to Disney on Ice on Saturday. She had so much fun! I loved watching her reactions as she watched some of her favorite characters sing and skate on the ice. She definitely had her favorites...primarily the princesses.

Hailey is standing in front of all the toys that they try to sell you...of course it worked on us. We just had to let her pick out a toy. You'd think she would have picked a princess...Belle, Ariel, Cinderella- any of them. Nope. She had to have the Mickey Mouse binoculars.

Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and the Lion King were some of her favorites.

First Haircut

Hailey and I went to the salon on Valentine's Day to get our hair cut together. This was Hailey's first haircut. It's hard to tell because it was more of a trim. She took a couple minutes to warm up, but then she thought it was pretty cool and she did great! Unfortunately, I couldn't take any pictures during the haircut because she sat on my lap for her haircut.

Hailey had a special Valentine's gift waiting for her when she got home. Daddy had bought her flowers, chocolates, a teddy bear, and the best part- chocolate milk!

Dress Up

Hailey is very much into pretend and dress up right now. She loves to dress up as a princess and dance with daddy. She also likes to get out her doctor kit and pretend she is Dr. Hailey. And we cannot forget that she also likes to be an adventurer like Diego and put on her backpack with "baby Jaguar" in the back and look for animals with a flashlight.

I can't believe it's been 3 months since Drew was born. Time definitely flies by faster when you have two kiddos! We are having so much fun with Drew and Hailey.
